Snell & Wilcox Super Visor Video Display Optimizer Scan Converter Rackmount
The Snell & Wilcox Super Visor is a professional video display optimizer and scan converter designed to take standard video signals and convert them for optimal presentation on multi-sync displays. Unlike a simple line-doubler, the Super Visor uses adaptive processing to increase the number of lines in the input image to make the scanning structure invisible, increase the image display rate to eliminate flicker, or apply a combination of both techniques to achieve the best possible output for a given display. It also enables SVGA computer graphics to be seamlessly mixed with video and displayed simultaneously on the same monitor.

Scan converters and display optimizers like the Super Visor bridged the gap between interlaced broadcast video (PAL, NTSC) and the progressive-scan, higher-refresh-rate world of computer displays, eliminating the characteristic flicker and line-crawl that made raw interlaced video look poor on computer monitors. The ability to mix SVGA graphics with live video made it particularly useful for presentation systems, video walls, and facilities producing graphics-heavy broadcast content. Snell & Wilcox (now part of Grass Valley) was a well-regarded UK manufacturer of broadcast signal processing equipment, and the Super Visor was a flagship product in their display processing line. This Snell & Wilcox Super Visor video display optimizer has been tested and is in good working condition — it powers on, the POWER and ACTIVE LEDs illuminate, and the front-panel LCD displays are functional, as shown in the photos. The blue rackmount chassis shows normal wear for used broadcast equipment, with minor scuffing consistent with rack use.
