Description
Powerstat Adjust-A-Volt 116U PRI 115V SEC 0-135V Panel w/3 Variacs 9432 Meters
This is a vintage multi-variac control panel built around three Powerstat/Adjust-A-Volt variable autotransformers — two Powerstat Type 116U units and one Adjust-A-Volt Type 9432 — all mounted to a single gray hammertone front panel. The panel also carries three Burlington Instruments Model 538 running time meters and a Telecron Minitmaster panel clock, making it a self-contained, instrument-grade voltage control assembly. It came out of a vintage rackmount test equipment setup.

Applications
Variacs (variable autotransformers) are standard lab and industrial tools for adjusting AC voltage smoothly from zero to above line voltage — used in test benches, burn-in racks, component testing setups, and anywhere a precise, continuously variable AC source is needed. Multi-variac panels like this one were commonly built into rackmount test equipment racks in mid-twentieth century labs and engineering facilities, where several independent voltage channels were needed in one panel. The Powerstat 116U is a well-regarded American-made variac from Superior Electric (the original maker of the Powerstat line), rated for 115V primary and 0–135V output. The running time meters give an accurate record of actual operating hours on each channel, which was important for maintenance scheduling in production and test environments. This panel would suit vintage electronics restoration, antique radio test benches, museum-quality lab displays, or any application where a multi-channel variable AC panel with period-correct instrumentation is wanted.
This Powerstat Adjust-A-Volt 116U variac panel came out of a vintage rackmount test equipment setup and has not been powered up or tested at our facility. The front panel shows the gray hammertone finish typical of older lab gear — there is general surface wear, and the Telecron Minitmaster clock bezel shows corrosion and patina consistent with age. The three Burlington Instruments Model 538 running time meters are readable in the photos and show accumulated hours of 59, 734, and 721 respectively, giving a real sense of prior use. The variac cores, wiring, and terminal strip are intact and visible in the rear photos. A hand-drawn wiring schematic is penciled directly onto the aluminum sub-plate.
