The Nortel / Bay Networks 5455 CL3104006 is a QENet communications card for the Bay Networks (formerly Wellfleet) modular chassis platform. It provides 16 ports of 100BASE-TX Fast Ethernet connectivity arranged in four port clusters (A through D, four ports each), with a 100BASE-TX host uplink interface. Applications
The Bay Networks 5455 QENet card was designed for installation in Bay Networks (Wellfleet) modular concentrator and routing chassis from the mid-to-late 1990s. These chassis-based systems were a mainstay of enterprise campus networking during the era when 100BASE-TX Fast Ethernet was being rolled out to replace 10BASE-T infrastructure. Cards like the 5455 expanded the chassis to support additional workgroup segments or server connections at 100 Mbps. Today, these cards are primarily sought by organizations still running legacy Bay Networks chassis environments, network labs, and collectors of late-1990s enterprise networking hardware. The Wellfleet/Bay Networks platform was eventually absorbed into Nortel Networks, and the chassis and compatible modules remain in limited service in installations that have not yet migrated to newer switching infrastructure.
This Nortel / Bay Networks 5455 CL3104006 QENet 100BASE-TX Com Card has been inspected and appears to be in good used condition. It was pulled from a working environment where it had been previously in service. The PCB shows normal age-related wear consistent with rack-mounted networking equipment; no visible physical damage to the board, ICs, or RJ45 port cluster.
