Applications
The IBM PS/2 line, introduced in 1987, used IBM's proprietary Micro Channel Architecture bus instead of the standard ISA bus found in earlier PC compatibles. MCA offered faster bus speeds and auto-configuration, but was incompatible with ISA expansion cards, creating a distinct ecosystem of MCA-specific peripherals and memory upgrades. The Kingston KTM-16000/386 was designed specifically for the 386-class PS/2 models — the Model 70 and Model 80 — which were IBM's higher-end workstation and server offerings of the late 1980s and early 1990s. Adding memory via a card like this was a common way to extend the useful life of these systems beyond their stock RAM ceiling. Today, these cards are primarily sought by vintage computing collectors and hobbyists maintaining or restoring IBM PS/2 systems, as MCA memory upgrades are scarce and no longer manufactured.
This Kingston KTM-16000/386 Magic RAM MCA Memory Expansion Card (KTM-3077-0) has been inspected and appears to be in good used condition. The PCB shows minor surface wear consistent with prior installation and removal, and the blue MCA bracket is intact. The card was pulled from a working IBM PS/2 environment. It has not been powered up or bench-tested at our facility. Please review all photos carefully and contact us with any questions before purchasing.
