Applications
The Pentium II was Intel's mainstream desktop and workstation processor through the late 1990s, succeeding the Pentium Pro and introducing the SECC Slot 1 form factor. The 400MHz variant with a 100MHz FSB was among the faster Pentium II speeds produced before the Pentium III took over, and it was widely used in mid-to-high-end desktop systems and entry-level workstations of the era running Windows 95, Windows 98, and Windows NT 4.0. Slot 1 motherboards were produced by virtually every major board maker of the period — ASUS, Abit, Gigabyte, Intel, and MSI among them — and the 400/512/100 specification is compatible with any Slot 1 board that supports the 100MHz FSB. Today these processors are sought by vintage PC enthusiasts restoring late-1990s systems, as well as collectors of classic Intel hardware.
