Applications
The Pentium 4 Northwood was Intel's mainstream desktop processor from roughly 2002–2004, succeeding the Willamette core with a smaller die, larger L2 cache, and lower heat output. Socket 478 systems were widely used in desktop workstations, budget servers, and enthusiast builds of that era, supported by chipsets such as the Intel 845, 850, 865, and 875P on platforms from manufacturers including Dell, HP, IBM, and many custom builders. The 800MHz FSB variant is compatible with Intel's 865 and 875 Canterwood/Springdale chipsets, which were the performance desktop platforms of the period. Socket 478 CPUs remain in demand today for vintage system restoration, legacy industrial and embedded PC applications, and hobbyist builds requiring period-correct hardware.
This Intel Pentium 4 SL6WF 2.4GHz Socket 478 processor has been tested at our facility and is in good working order. The processor is the CPU only — no heatsink or cooler is included. The top heat spreader shows light handling marks typical of a pulled processor, and the pins on the underside appear straight and undamaged as shown in our photos.
