Description
Intel StorageExpress LDS240208E ELD 486sx Network Backup Server 540MB Ethernet
The Intel StorageExpress LDS240208E is a dedicated network backup server built around Intel's StorageExpress system — a purpose-built appliance designed to provide centralized tape and disk backup services for LAN-connected workstations without requiring a dedicated general-purpose file server. This unit is the ELD (EL Drive) model, equipped with an Intel 486sx processor and a Quantum 540MB hard drive. It powers on and the front-panel LCD display shows the LAN configuration screen, but it could not be tested further. It is being sold AS-IS with no warranty.

Applications
The Intel StorageExpress system was introduced in the early-to-mid 1990s as a turnkey network backup appliance for Novell NetWare and DOS-based LAN environments. Rather than dedicating a full file server to backup duties, the StorageExpress unit sat on the network as a standalone device, allowing multiple workstations and servers to back up to its internal drive over Ethernet or Token Ring. It was aimed at small-to-medium business networks that needed automated, centralized backup without the overhead of a general-purpose server. The system ran its own embedded software and was managed through the front-panel LCD or LAN management utilities such as Intel LANDesk. By the mid-to-late 1990s, this class of dedicated backup appliance was largely superseded by network-attached storage and software-based backup solutions running on standard server hardware. Today these units are of interest primarily to vintage computing collectors, researchers, and those maintaining or documenting early-1990s corporate LAN environments.
This Intel StorageExpress LDS240208E ELD Network Backup Server is new in an open box — it has not been used but was opened. It powers on (the LCD display shows the LAN configuration screen), but could not be tested further, and is being sold AS-IS with no warranty. No manual or additional peripherals are included beyond what is shown in our photos. Please view our photo set and contact us if you have any questions.
