Applications

The PS/2 mouse interface was introduced with IBM's Personal System/2 (PS/2) line in 1987 and became the standard pointing-device connector on IBM-compatible PCs through the 1990s and into the 2000s, gradually replaced by USB. The 6-pin Mini-DIN PS/2 connector is electrically compatible with systems running DOS, Windows 3.x, Windows 95/98/Me, Windows NT, Windows 2000, and Windows XP. Many motherboards from that era feature a dedicated PS/2 mouse port (typically green), and PS/2-to-USB adapters are widely available for use on modern systems. This style of compact two-button mouse was standard equipment on IBM desktop workstations and PCs of the late 1980s through mid-1990s, and it remains sought after by collectors, retro computing enthusiasts, and users maintaining legacy IBM or PS/2-era systems.
