Applications
The IBM PS/2 Model 30 was IBM's entry-level desktop in the Personal System/2 family, targeted at home users, small businesses, and educational institutions. Launched in 1987, it replaced the older IBM PC and XT line as IBM's mainstream offering and introduced the 3.5-inch floppy disk as the standard PC storage medium, replacing the 5.25-inch format. The PS/2 line also standardized the PS/2 keyboard and mouse connectors that remained common on PCs well into the 2000s. The Model 30 ran IBM DOS and PC DOS, and was compatible with a wide range of contemporary software including Lotus 1-2-3, WordPerfect, and early Windows versions. Today, the PS/2 Model 30 is sought by vintage computer collectors and enthusiasts who restore and run period-correct IBM PC software and operating systems. The dual-floppy configuration (no hard drive) is particularly authentic to the original late-1980s experience and is prized for running disk-based software from that era.
This IBM PS/2 Model 30 8530-002 desktop computer has been tested and is in good working condition. The unit powers on and the dual 3.5" floppy drives (Drive A and Drive B) are present and functional. The beige plastic casing shows typical light wear for a late-1980s machine — normal aging and minor surface marks — but is structurally solid with no cracks or breaks. The IBM Personal System/2 Model 30 badge on the front is intact. Rear ports and connectors appear clean and undamaged. Please view our photo set and contact us if you have any questions.
