Applications
The HP LaserJet 4L was HP's entry-level personal laser printer of the early-to-mid 1990s, designed for individual workstation use in small offices and home offices where a compact, low-cost laser alternative to inkjet printing was needed. It connects to a host PC via a parallel (Centronics) port, which was the standard printer interface of the era. The enhanced PCL 5 language and HP-GL/2 plotter emulation made it compatible with a very wide range of DOS and Windows software of the time, from word processors to CAD programs. EconoMode allowed users to stretch toner cartridges further during draft printing. The LaserJet 4L is still used today as a legacy printer in environments running older software or hardware that requires a parallel-port laser printer, and it remains popular among vintage computing enthusiasts for its reliability and the wide availability of toner cartridges (HP 92274A / 74A).
This HP C2003A LaserJet 4L personal laser printer has been pulled from a working office environment where it was previously in use. It has been visually inspected and photographed. The exterior shows the typical yellowing and light surface wear common on beige HP LaserJet printers of this era. No major cracks, breaks, or damage are visible in the photos. The unit has not been powered up or bench-tested at our facility. A toner cartridge, interface cables, and manual are not included.
