The Global Solar 22042A is a 42-watt foldable CIGS (Copper Indium Gallium Selenide) solar panel built for the US military's Portable Power Pack P3 program. It is a 12-volt nominal panel intended for field battery charging, housed in tough black rip-stop nylon with ETFE-encapsulated thin-film CIGS cells. This stock consists of new old stock units stored in conditioned storage since 2014 and are manufacturing seconds — they may show small cosmetic artifacts from the production process and years of storage handling.

Applications
Global Solar's P3 Portable Power Pack panels were developed for the US military beginning in the late 1990s, originally for the Marine Corps, with subsequent adoption across other branches and government organizations. The P3 design targets rapid field recharging of 12-volt deep-cycle, NiMH, and lithium-ion rechargeable batteries — including BB390, BB590, and the Bren-tronics BB2590 soldier battery pack. The foldable form factor allows the panel to be carried in a pack and deployed quickly in the field. CIGS thin-film cells perform better than crystalline silicon under diffuse light conditions and at elevated temperatures, which makes them well suited for field environments. ETFE encapsulation adds durability and UV resistance compared to standard PET-only lamination. The P3 line is unregulated — it outputs directly to a battery without a built-in charge controller, so a separate controller is needed when charging batteries that require regulated voltage. These panels are also used for off-grid electronics charging, vehicle battery maintenance, and remote power applications.
