Applications
The Epson NB3s belongs to the generation of 386SX laptops that dominated business portable computing in the early 1990s. The 386SX — a cost-reduced variant of Intel's 386DX with a 16-bit external data bus — was widely adopted in laptops of this era because it delivered 32-bit software compatibility at a lower price and power draw than the full 386DX, making it well suited to battery-powered portables. Machines like the NB3s ran MS-DOS and early Windows 3.x, and were used for word processing, spreadsheets, and database work in the field. The optional 387SX co-processor socket allowed users to add hardware floating-point acceleration for engineering or financial calculation tasks. Today, the NB3s appeals to vintage computing collectors and enthusiasts who maintain working DOS systems, as well as anyone restoring or studying the early-1990s laptop market. Compatible software includes the full range of DOS applications and Windows 3.0/3.1.
This Epson NB3s E9450U 386SX laptop is in used condition and has not been powered up or tested at our facility. It was pulled from a working environment where it was previously in use. The unit shows typical age-related wear for a laptop of this era — some yellowing of the off-white plastic chassis is visible, which is normal for early-1990s ABS plastic. The keyboard, LCD hinge, and external ports all appear intact in our photos. Please note the AC adapter (Epson AD1220WA, DC 10V 1.7A) is not included and will need to be sourced separately before the unit can be powered. Please view our photo set and contact us if you have any questions.
