Applications
The Diamond SupraExpress SUP2430 belongs to the external 56K modem generation that was standard equipment for dial-up internet access and fax transmission in the late 1990s and early 2000s. External serial modems like this were widely used with both desktop PCs and Macintosh systems — the Mini-DIN 8-pin connector was the standard Mac serial port of that era, and the SUP2430 line was marketed to Mac users alongside PC users. V.90 was the ITU-standardized 56K protocol that superseded the competing K56flex and X2 proprietary standards, allowing downloads at up to 56 Kbps over standard PSTN telephone lines. Today these modems see continued use for legacy fax applications, dial-up data connections to older industrial or SCADA systems, point-of-sale terminals, and modem-based remote access where a phone line is still the required medium. Collectors and retro-computing enthusiasts also seek them for period-correct Mac and PC setups from the dial-up era.
This Diamond SupraExpress SUP2430 56K External Fax Modem has been inspected and is in good used condition. The modem body shows light surface wear consistent with prior use, and the status indicators and label graphics on the front panel are intact and legible. The unit includes its original Diamond WH060500-1DN power supply (120VAC input, 6VDC/500mA output) and the serial cable with Mini-DIN 8-pin connector.
