Dell MW541 CD-RW DVD-ROM Combo Drive Module 6T980-A01 Inspiron Latitude Bay

The Dell MW541 is a removable CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo optical drive module designed to fit Dell's modular media bay found in Inspiron and Latitude series laptops. It connects via Dell's proprietary modular bay edge connector and slides into the media bay without tools, allowing hot-swap or cold-swap replacement of the optical drive. The module supports CD-RW writing, CD-R writing, DVD-ROM playback, and standard CD-ROM reading.

Applications

Dell's modular media bay system was used across the Inspiron and Latitude laptop lines in the early-to-mid 2000s, allowing users to swap optical drives, secondary batteries, or floppy drives in and out of the same bay slot without opening the chassis. The MW541 module slots into that bay and provides full CD burning and DVD playback capability — useful for reinstalling operating systems, playing media, or burning data discs directly from a compatible Dell laptop. These modules are still sought after by users maintaining older Dell Inspiron 5000, 8000, 8100, 8200, and Latitude C-series machines where replacing a failed optical drive or adding disc-writing capability is needed. Verify compatibility with your specific Dell model before purchasing.
