Description
DaynaFile DF Series 360KB/1.2MB 5.25" SCSI External Floppy Drive Dual Bay DB25
The DaynaFile DF Series is a dual-bay external SCSI floppy disk drive made by Dayna Communications of Salt Lake City, Utah. It houses two 5.25" floppy drives in a single desktop enclosure — an upper 1.2MB high-density drive and a lower 360KB double-density drive — both accessible simultaneously over a single SCSI connection. Designed primarily to give Apple Macintosh and other SCSI-equipped computers access to 5.25" IBM PC-format floppy disks, the DaynaFile was a key compatibility bridge in the late 1980s and early 1990s when the Mac/PC floppy format divide was a real workflow problem.

Applications
The DaynaFile was designed specifically to solve the Mac-to-PC floppy exchange problem of the late 1980s and early 1990s. While the Macintosh used 3.5" disks with Apple's own formatting, a huge installed base of PC software and data lived on 5.25" disks. Dayna Communications built the DF Series so that a Mac with a SCSI port could read and write standard IBM PC 5.25" floppy formats — 360KB DD and 1.2MB HD — without needing a separate PC. It connected to the Mac's external SCSI chain alongside hard drives and other peripherals. Today these units are sought by vintage computing enthusiasts, archivists transferring legacy 5.25" disk collections, and anyone maintaining older SCSI-equipped Macs or workstations that need access to 5.25" media.
This DaynaFile DF Series 360KB/1.2MB 5.25" SCSI External Floppy Drive has been tested and is in good working condition. The beige enclosure shows light yellowing and minor surface wear typical of vintage drives from this era, but there is no cracking, damage, or missing parts. Both 5.25" drive bays and eject levers are intact and functional. The unit includes the original SCSI cable with DB25 male connector, visible in the photos. The rear panel power switch, termination switch, and 50-pin Centronics SCSI port are all present and undamaged. Please view our photo set and contact us if you have any questions.
