Applications

Novell ZENworks for Desktops is a network lifecycle management platform that allows administrators to manage desktops and laptops across a corporate LAN — or even across the internet — from a central console. ZENworks for Desktops 4 was part of Novell's Zero Effort Networking (ZEN) suite, built on top of NDS/eDirectory, and was widely used in enterprise environments running Novell NetWare and Open Enterprise Server networks in the early-to-mid 2000s. This handbook walks through running ZENworks in a mixed Microsoft Windows and Novell environment, streamlining application distribution and deployment, setting and enforcing desktop policies, managing workstation inventory, and using LAN and server monitoring agents to prevent downtime. It is aimed at network administrators, CNEs (Certified Novell Engineers), and technical support staff responsible for keeping a Novell-based network running smoothly. This edition was published in December 2002 / 2003 and covers ZENworks for Desktops 4 specifically, making it the reference for administrators managing that version of the platform.
