Description
Commodore DPS-1101 Daisy Wheel Printer 120V 60Hz Made in Japan w/ Daisy Wheel
The Commodore DPS-1101 is a desktop daisy wheel impact printer that produces letter-quality printed output by striking a spinning print wheel against an inked ribbon and paper. Unlike dot-matrix printers, daisy wheel printers form fully-shaped characters for crisp, typewriter-quality text. This unit was manufactured in Japan and carries a UL Office Appliance listing. It connects to a host computer via serial interface using DIN connectors on the rear panel.

Applications
Daisy wheel printers like the DPS-1101 were the standard for letter-quality printing in office and home computing environments from the late 1970s through the mid-1980s. They were widely used with personal computers — including Commodore's own 8-bit systems as well as CP/M and MS-DOS machines — for correspondence, reports, and documentation where the crisp, fully-formed characters of typewriter output were required. The interchangeable print wheel system allowed users to swap typefaces (Courier, Prestige Elite, etc.) and pitches (10, 12, 15 cpi, and proportional spacing) without replacing the whole printer mechanism. By the late 1980s, laser printers largely displaced daisy wheel machines in offices, making working examples like this increasingly collectible among vintage computing enthusiasts and those maintaining period-accurate home computer setups. The Commodore DPS-1101 was built by Juki (a major OEM manufacturer of daisy wheel mechanisms) and badged for Commodore, which explains the Juki-branded print wheel included with this unit.
This Commodore DPS-1101 Daisy Wheel Printer has been pulled from a working environment where it was previously in use. It has been visually inspected and photographed. The exterior shows the normal light surface wear and minor dust accumulation you would expect on used equipment of this age. The print mechanism appears intact with the print carriage, ribbon drive, and paper guide all present. A Juki 176-0A0 Courier 10 daisy wheel and an IBM High Yield Correction Film ribbon cartridge are included. The printer has not been powered up or tested at our facility. Please review all photos carefully and contact us with any questions before purchasing.
