Description
Apple 607-0173 IIgs Upgrade Motherboard 607-0170 IIe Apple IIGS Logic Board
The Apple 607-0173 is the main logic board used in the Apple IIgs upgrade path from the Apple IIe. This motherboard — bearing both part numbers 607-0173 and 607-0170 on the PCB — is the heart of the Apple IIgs system, housing the 65C816 processor ecosystem, the system's memory and I/O logic, seven peripheral expansion slots, and the full rear I/O connector panel. It is one of the most sought-after boards for Apple II collectors, restorers, and vintage computing enthusiasts.

Applications
The Apple IIgs was introduced in 1986 as the most advanced member of the Apple II family, featuring a 16-bit WDC 65C816 processor running at 2.8 MHz (or 1 MHz in compatibility mode), an Ensoniq sound chip, and built-in support for color graphics, MIDI, and the Apple Desktop Bus (ADB). The IIgs was designed to bridge the Apple II world and the emerging Macintosh era — it ran virtually all existing Apple II software while adding much more capable sound, graphics, and processing power. The seven-slot expansion bus maintained backward compatibility with the enormous library of Apple II peripheral cards (disk controllers, accelerators, memory cards, networking cards), making it a favorite among hobbyists and businesses that had invested in the Apple II ecosystem. Today the Apple IIgs remains highly collectible and actively used within the retro-computing community; working logic boards like this one are essential for restoration projects and are increasingly hard to find. This board is directly compatible with Apple IIe chassis hardware and is the correct replacement/upgrade board for IIe-to-IIgs conversion projects.
This Apple 607-0173 IIgs Upgrade Motherboard has been tested at our facility and is in good working condition. The board is visually clean overall with the cosmetic wear typical of vintage Apple II hardware — light handling marks on the PCB surface and some tarnish on the rear I/O connector panel, as seen in the photos. All seven expansion slot connectors and the full rear I/O panel (including the DB-25, DB-9, DB-15, Mini-DIN, and 3.5mm audio connectors) are present and intact.
