The Anritsu ME7750A is a complete 43.5 Gbit/s bit error rate (BER) measurement system for 40G optical development and manufacturing test. It generates and analyzes high-speed data streams from 25 Gbit/s to 43.5 Gbit/s and is designed to test OC-768 (STM-256) and OC-192 (STM-64) transceivers, modulators, MUX/DEMUX assemblies, high-speed logic devices, optical modules, and forward error correction (FEC) implementations operating at and beyond 40 Gbit/s. The system ships as a four-module set that has been deinstalled from an active optical R&D facility and will be verified and calibrated by Anritsu prior to shipping.

Applications

The ME7750A is used in R&D and manufacturing test of 40 Gbit/s optical communication devices and subsystems — a generation of equipment that defined the OC-768 long-haul optical transport standard widely deployed in backbone telecom networks from the early 2000s onward. At 43.5 Gbit/s the system covers the full 40G line rate plus FEC overhead, making it one of relatively few instruments capable of characterizing FEC-enhanced 40G devices to their actual operating rate. Typical device-under-test (DUT) categories include: 40G optical transceivers and transponders, 4:1 MUX/DEMUX chips and modules, electro-optic modulators, high-speed SERDES logic, and OC-768/STM-256 framer/mapper ICs.
