This is probably a DC => AC => DC converter for small voltages and powers.
The DC (to be measured) comes in
is chopped up at a few hundred Hz)
put in a transformer and in an AC amplifier,
back in an other transformer
and chopped back to DC again
by the second set of contacts in the same chopper.
A good old way to make a stable uV meter for DC, not unusual in recorders.
